Warrnambool is an ideal place for your family to visit at any time of year. The town is full of things to see and do and many of them are free. Warrnambool is a leisurely 3 hour drive from Melbourne and only 1 hour from the Twelve Apostles, on the Great Ocean Road.
From whale watching at Logan’s Beach to seal spotting at Thunder Point, the animal lovers will be delighted at the sights and your children’s curiosity will turn to amazement at the discovery of these gorgeous sea creatures.
A spot of fishing from a floating jetty will give you all a bit of time out and the opportunity to teach the kids a life skill or two. If the haul is good, then there are plenty of barbeque areas in which to picnic and feast.
You don’t want to miss spending some time at Lake Pertobe. With playgrounds for kids of all ages they can spend hours simply playing and burning off some holiday energy.
Feed the ducks or take a walk through the beautiful gardens. Boat hire is available too.
For active families, there are plenty of walks and bike rides around the gorgeous coastline, complete with opportunities to discover and explore the history and heritage of the area. You might like to venture to Tower Hill state game reserve where you’ll find an extinct volcano (the kids will be fascinated) and view the local wildlife such as Emu’s, Koala’s and Kangaroo’s. Plus hundreds of different bird species. Bike hire is available from our local Visitor Information centre or bring your own & let the kids ride around our park, remember to bring your safety gear.
Cycle along the promenade and take in the scenic views, or, if you’re up for it, experience the 37km bike trail from Warrnambool to Port Fairy. Pack a picnic for refuelling along the way and enjoy the gorgeous coastal views.
You may just like to pass some gentle time visiting our local winery to taste award winning wines, try some cheese at Allansford only 10 minutes away, or explore the many beaches within the area; a must see and perfect, whatever the weather.
